Walkers Transport are celebrating this month, by giving away
a Truck Driving Experience across their social media channels.
Why are they celebrating?
There is a hot topic being talked about and has created a
bit of upset in the Haulage Industry.
If you’ve seen any haulage news in the past few months you will know it’s the
Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) that is hogging the media’s
attention in our industry. Because of the pressure of the CPC, Walkers
Transport have helped their drivers to complete the required attributes of the
CPC. It’s been a lot of work on the driver’s behalf but Walkers are now pleased
that all our drivers have passed their CPC and can go on for another 5 years of
driving HGV vehicles for Walkers Transport.
If you weren’t aware of the pressure behind passing the CPC
we have outlined some details and what needs to be done to pass, also what it
may hold if drivers in the industry don’t pass the CPC. The deadline is 10th
September 2014 and the qualification is the HGV drivers Certificate of
Professional Competence.
The CPC or Driver Certificate of Professional Competence has
been a under discussion by HGV drivers, haulage companies as well as the
leaders in our industry. To comply with European Union Directive regulations
and keep our drivers in the Walkers family, we have provided the necessary
funds to send our entire fleet on their CPC exam. Required by law, the test
must be taken every five years and consists of 35 hours periodic training, a
theory test with a multiple choice section, a hazard perception, a driver case
study and a driving ability test. Our HGV drivers were also required to demonstrate
that they can load and unload a HGV vehicle safely.
Our logistics company knows the importance of keeping our
drivers on the roads and making sure they are working in a safe environment. Walkers
have decided to celebrate all drivers passing the CPC test buy offering a Virgin
Experience Truck
Driving Experience to one lucky person on Walkers Transport social pages.
Walkers feel they want to show the everyday person what it’s like to become a
HGV driver. There is the hope that creating interest in the trucking industry
will bring new younger drivers to the haulage industry. As we are all aware the
industry is struggling to recruited new drivers especially young drivers, as people
see the job as long hours away from home, loved ones and been constantly on the
road.
