Haulage companies urged to routinely screen for sleeping disorders

A Sheffield MP has called for haulage companies to routinely screen their HGV drivers to ensure they are not suffering from a health disorder that causes them to fall asleep at the wheel.

Labour and Co-op MP Meg Munn said she had been alerted to the problem of
obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) after the nephew of one of her constituents was killed by a lorry which was being driven by someone with the OSA condition.

During a Westminster debate on the issue, Munn said that as many as 40,000 HGV drivers could be suffering from OSA and the majority might be unaware that they have the condition. Munn has been campaigning on the issue for a number of years and initially raised the subject in a debate back in 2012.

The disorder prevents sufferers from getting a good night’s sleep, leaving them feeling chronically tired.

  1. Hgh drivers work Funny hours, sometimes upto 6 hours later than arranged our shifts starts,
Night out drivers are not paid thru the night, do to being classed as off duty, away from home?
during the night the driver is listening out for robbers, even in safe parking areas like lymm services,
most companies work us so hard, they don't just want your blood, they want the marrow out of us too,
So the government want to penalise HGV drivers again, as we already been shafted with the DCPC,

the foreign drivers dont have to acquire DCPC yet, so the britsh driver is at a massive disadvantage,

the answer must be.. lets Shaft the british workers Again, so we can employ more Forien drivers for less
